The three coats of stucco are the scratch coat, the brown coat and the finish coat. The scratch coat is a semi-thin coat that is used to embed the wire in and to form a foundation or base for the brown coat. The brown coat is the thick coat that is used to true up the surface and is the strength of the surface. The finish coat is a thin coat that gives the finish or the look desired. We chose a sand finish which is semi-smooth with a rough sand texture.
